-Even with a brilliant huge 4″ display, it feels really comfortable and light in hand thanks to its very sleek design.

-8.1 MP camera is one of the best you can find on smartphones.

-Android market has all the apps I need – love it.

-Its music player simply rocks. Stock headphone delivers clean and crisp bass -which is quite a rarity. Watching youtube and other videos on it over 3G/wifi is really an awesome experience.

-Android 1.6 works just fine for me as I’m used to +/- zooming. And because of the big high resolution display, I don’t have to zoom that often. I will probably not buy anything with smaller display again. It’s so much fun to browse on a 4″ display.

-Battery life is above the average. If you use your ‘smartphone’ quite often every day, you’ve to plug it in every night anyway.

-Its trademark features timescape and mediascape are really interesting. They put together all my daily and social activities in one single place.

Overall, I’m very satisfied with this phone.

I’ve had many, many smartphones. I also currently own a Nexus One so I’m very familiar with Android. I had purchased a Samsung Captivate as a second phone to carry, but returned it due to some issues. The Xperia X10 is just a really great device. Phone reception is really great and gps functions spot on.

Timescape is a very nice way to keep up with social feeds and the presentation is pretty killer.

Mediascape is an incredible improvement over the stock Android media players. SE did a great job in covering up Android 1.6 with their own custom skin. They have also added things like Exchange support that would be lacking in many older versions of the OS. It’s a very pretty UI and overall a pleasure to use vs stock Android.

This is a very short review, but I will say that I highly recommend the X10.

    Xperia

While I salivated when I saw the white Xperia, the black Xperia did curb my salivation :) I almost got the Captivate, but saw this on Amazon Wireless – and didn’t think twice ! Amazon Wireless has been excellent with providing quality service and quick shipping and handling. That being said, here’s my take on this beaut from SE.

    Pros :

(1)Excellent call quality(TTY is turned on all the time – after doing some research)

(2)GPS ROCKS – Locks fast and took me on a 1000+ mile trip without losing connectivity -ANYWHERE, ANYTIME !

(3)Timescape and Mediascape are good – use them extensively. No lag found unlike those mentioned in some forums that I’ve come across.

(4)Battery life – Good enough 1+ days easy(although I diligently turn off wifi/3g and use “the” app to extensively kill stuff I don’t use/need). The Li-po battery does not have a memory effect unlike others so keep it charged whenever it dips below 30-40%

(5)Screen quality is crisp if you save yourself the bother and turn the Auto feature off.40-50% screen brightness should perk up the screen

(6)Camera snaps and video are A++++ during day, but during night…

(7)Music quality is crisp and clear(streaming over 3G/Wi-fi is spectacular)

(8)1 ghz processor does justice to 1.6, and gets the work done.I haven’t experienced any lag/delay. The supposedly update to 2.1/2 will make it fly

(9)Build quality is awesome. Think BMW !

(10)Looks are subjective, but I think this is one of the best looking phones out there..period

    Cons :

(1)Missing out on “good” apps available for 2.2

(2)ATT’s crapola bloated apps eating into the precious memory

(3)Night time camera snaps are crap mostly due to the lack of a flash. The “LED” flash serves the purpose of a flash-light..nothing more !

(4)Came with a 2GB Microsd installed – Expected that since SE is not the most generous when it comes to giving freebies(Have upgraded it to a 8gb class 6 though!)

(5)Speakers are feeble, wish they could have had 2. Own a N95 8GB as well – the dual speakers that this baby has can drive you deaf :)

    Overall:

I have used SE since their T68i days, and my last one was a N95 8GB(if only it had a touch screen – it would beat the pants outta every android phone out there :) !! – I am personally very happy to have bought this phone over other “better” phones out there. I would highly recommend this phone to people who don’t mind missing out on the latest and the greatest !!!!

  4. When Sony Ericsson released the Xperia X1, I wanted it but it never came out to the United States. Then the X2 came out and it was kind of ‘bleh.’ When the X10 was announced in late 2009, I was disappointed that it wasn’t initially released in the U.S.. In mid-August 2010, AT&T and SonyStyle began selling it. I found out about Amazon’s wireless purchase service and saved a lot of money versus going through AT&T or SonyStyle directly. I upgraded my old AT&T Sony Ericsson clamshell feature phone to the X10 for [...]. That is a great price when you consider some of the hardware specs (such as CPU and camera) are still right in line with some of the current best Android phones which are selling for [...] and up.

    Pros:

    - Typical Sony quality design

    - 1GHz Snapdragon CPU

    - 8.1 megapixel camera

    - 4″ touch screen display

    - Mediascape which plays the photos, music, and video files on the phone and is much better than the stock Android player

    - Wired stereo headset is included

    - Bluetooth hardware paired with my Sony Ericsson HCB-105 handsfree car speakerphone and Monoprice UM-1100C headset with no problems

    Cons:

    - Android 1.6 out of the box, but I already knew this going into the purchase, and Sony Ericsson has already committed to a 2.1 upgrade soon

    - AT&T-installed apps (AT&T FamilyMap, AT&T Hot Spots, AT&T Maps, AT&T Navigator, AT&T Radio, and a few other 3rd-party apps) that cannot be removed

    - AT&T locks the phone to only being able to download and install Android apps from the Android Market

    On the fence about:

    - No 4G connectivity hardware, but that’s okay since it’s not supported in my area anyway

    - Timescape which covers email, chats, and social networking is really slick, but I don’t use any of that much anyway so it’s more of nice-to-have kind of thing

    - No multi-touch screen, but again I already knew this going into the purchase so it wasn’t a deal breaker

    - 2GB microSD card instead of the 8GB one that ships with the X10 everywhere else in the world, but that’s okay since I would have upgraded the card to a 16GB one anyway since you can get high speed class 4 ones in the low [...] when they go on sale

The X10 has a few limitations compared to the latest-and-greatest that are out nowadays, but I’m more of an old-fashioned cell phone user where I’m turning off hardware features and killing application processes whenever possible while not being a big online and app user at the same time…which all goes into saving battery life…so I can live without some of the newer features out there. No matter how good a smartphone is today, none of them can replace a decent PC for me anyway which I still do most of my work, online stuff, and occasional games with.

All in all, it’s a cool phone with very nice features. Once Android 2.1 is released for it, I’m sure it’ll be even better. And for [...] through Amazon (no tax and free two-day shipping too) for this level of hardware, it’s just one step from being given away. No rebates to deal with, and if you catch it at the right time the AT&T activation fee is waived as well.

A great bang-for-the-buck Android smartphone! I have no regrets.

  5. Isaac S. says:

I’ve had this phone for a week now and I love it. Ir runs Android 1.6 but it is covered up nicely with Sony Ericsson’s beautiful custom skin. Timescape is a neat feature but probably something where the newness factor will wear off and I won’t use it very much down the road. Mediascape is a very cool media player with tons of functionality. Sometimes the processor is very snappy, and sometimes it’s not, it’s unpredictable at this point.

    Pros:

Best bang for your buck when it comes to smartphones.

Timescape and Mediascape are unique to this phone.

Touchscreen isn’t perfect, but it is above average

    Great camera

Contact list that links Facebook, emails, and everything else to a contact is really useful.

Microusb charger and 3.5mm headphone jack. No proprietary connections.

    Expandable memory

There is a extended battery available if you search the internet for it.

External LED that blinks when you have a message or email or whatever. You can see the green light across the room and unlike other phones, you don’t have to unlock the screen anytime you want to see if you have a message

LED flash on camera can be turned into a very bright flashlight if you download the free app

    Cons:

Battery life (as with any Android phone)

    Speakerphone is below average

No customizable equilaizer (at least not that I could find after a week of use)

Missing functionality of newer builds of Android (although Android 2.1 will be rolled out for this phone before the end of the year)
