Primerica ready for world expansion?
Probably not. Primerica has focused on the United States market expanded cautiously into Canada in 1986 and placed a tentative step in Spain in 2002 with the creation of Citisoluciones. But with the continuing attempts to sell off Primerica by Citicorp the future looks at the best uncertain. While Primerica has been active to expand its portfolio wherever possible, current and potential clients will look closely at the financial strength of the company and after the sector meltdown in 2008 and 2009, they will need many reassurances that this is insurance with a future.
So essentially there are three scenarios available. Firstly, to merge with a bigger insurance group who are hungry to get hold of Primerica’s client portfolio, secondly a strong foreign bank group who want to enter into the US insurance market, right now this is not such an attractive proposition for the buyer and thirdly, failure to do anything else and left to wither and die. Probably the first proposition is the most likely outcome but as has been shown by the steady downgrading of the company’s book value the moment has not yet arrived to find a buyer ready to pay the agreed price, within the next 6 months the fate of Primerica will probably be known.
